An effective library is not only a place where the wealth of human knowledge is stored, but where that knowledge is eagerly accessed, evaluated, acted upon, and multiplied.
At Qingdao Amerasia International School, the Library is an environment where students feel welcome and supported, with engaging materials in place to help them develop their research skills and knowledge through reading.
In the Library at QAIS, materials are arranged to call out to our students’ interests, to help further their inquiry. As they grow in English-language literacy, our Mother Tongue section provides works in many of their native languages, so that they can continue to sharpen their own linguistic resources. Our ‘Qingdao’ section provides a cultural introduction to this beautiful city. Elementary teachers bring their students to the Library regularly for their reading time, helping the students associate the activity with a space that is bright and inviting. As children spend time with books, their literacy skills grow, giving them access to a universe of facts, jokes, plays, and fantasies.

On a recent visit, Grade 2 Teacher Brad Murray commented that, “It’s essential for kids to want to spend time with books. When they associate the Library with comfort and peace, they really enjoy spending time there, and there is a direct benefit to their knowledge and understanding.”
