Dr Seuss Delights Toddlers, Grade 3
Last Monday, March 2nd, marked 110 years since the birth of Dr. Seuss, the international superstar of English literature for early readers (and grown-up appreciators!). For generations, his imaginative illustrations and ear-tickling rhymes have sparked a passion for reading in children around the world. His books are so magnetic that toddlers will pick them up and recite their favorite passages; and the books’ accessibility helps young readers build confidence in reading all by themselves.
We experienced all of this firsthand last week, when Mrs. Szyman’s Grade 3 class came to the Bamboo Cottage to share Dr. Seuss books with our toddlers. The Bamboo Cottage teachers had prepared Green Eggs and Ham for snack, and third graders and toddlers read books together in small groups. It was a beautiful example of how children joyfully share their skills with one another.
