Qingdao Amerasia International School recently hosted its DP Course Selection Fair, an important milestone supporting students and families as they prepare for the transition from the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) to the IB Diploma Programme (DP).
Stella Zhao, DP Coordinator, and Mr. Jakub Grzeszczuk, MYP Coordinator, explained how the MYP builds the academic foundation for success in the DP. They highlighted how MYP eAssessments and ePortfolios develop critical thinking, research, and independent learning skills that prepare students for the rigor of the IBDP.
DP 2 students Dylan, Charlotte, and Kevin WK introduced the DP curriculum and subject groups, sharing student perspectives on course expectations and the learning journey ahead. Their insights helped demystify the DP for younger students and families beginning to explore subject options. Tom and Charlotte, DP 2, spoke about the importance of staying balanced during the DP by exploring personal passions and participating in sports and service, reinforcing Amerasia’s commitment to holistic education and wellbeing.
Parents and students then engaged in the DP Course Selection Fair, where subject teachers provided detailed explanations of their syllabi and course demands. The College Counselor also worked closely with families, helping students align DP subject choices with future goals, university pathways, and intended majors.
As an IB Continuum school, Amerasia is uniquely positioned to support students across programmes; laying strong academic foundations in the MYP and walking alongside families as they make informed, confident decisions for the DP.
