UNCOVERING COLONIZATION
Stories that Matter: Grade 5 Uncovers the Legacy of Colonization
Grade 5 students celebrated their unit “Stories of Change: Uncovering the Powerful Legacy of Colonization from Past to Present.” This event marked the culmination of five weeks of deep inquiry into how colonization has shaped societies, influenced the environment, and continues to leave lasting impacts on the modern world.
Students demonstrated thoughtful understanding as they explored multiple perspectives on whether colonization brought more harm than good. They showcased the historical, social, and environmental effects of colonization, highlighting the characteristics and timelines of colonized countries.
Students shared their research on the Philippines, South Africa, India, and Indonesia. These presentations reflected careful analysis and empathy, illustrating how colonization shaped each nation’s culture, systems, and identity in different ways.
This Unit Celebration was a powerful example of inquiry in action. From carefully crafted presentations to thoughtful reflections and creative expression, each exhibit represented the students’ insights into how the past continues to shape our present.
The celebration served as a reminder of Grade 5’s enthusiasm, resilience, and the vibrant learning community we are building together.
