Our MYP 2 and 3 Language and Literature students took Shakespeare out of the classroom and into the great outdoors as part of an interdisciplinary unit with Theatre.
In true Shakespearean fashion, students transformed our campus into their very own Amphitheatre, performing scenes and monologues from some of the Bard’s most famous works, including Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, and Twelfth Night.
The performance was anything but traditional. Students embraced the humor, drama, and larger-than-life characters that have entertained audiences for more than 400 years. To ensure everyone was in on the fun, audience members were even provided with signs prompting them when to laugh, gasp in shock, or react dramatically.
Through the unit, students explored how language, performance, movement, and audience engagement work together to bring literature to life. They demonstrated impressive confidence, creativity, and collaboration while interpreting Shakespeare’s timeless stories for a modern audience. As Shakespeare himself might have said, “All the world’s a stage” — and last week, Amerasia certainly was.
