15 Years of Amerasia Education — A Journey from Montessori to the IBDP

Rina Xu, Class of 2025, acquired a perfect IBDP score of 45 out of 45, which is received by less than one percent of IB DP Graduates in the world. Rina is also a ‘perfect’ Amerasia student, spending 15 years growing through our Montessori and IB PYP, MYP, and DP continuum. She graduated with a perfect IBDP score of 45, along with IELTS 8.0, and is now a first-year Psychology student at the National University of Singapore, ranked QS #1 in Asia and #8 globally.

Rina returned to Amerasia and walked families through her experience across the Montessori, IB PYP, MYP, and DP, highlighting how she acquired independence and concentration in Montessoori Class, inquiry-based learning in the PYP, skill-building through Approaches to Learning (ATLs) in MYP, and the rigor and reflection of the DP worked together to support her growth, not only academically, but as a thinker, communicator, and well-rounded individual.

Hear from Rina directly:

How do you feel Montessori and IB education have impacted you from age 3 to 18?

“Growing up in a system that starts with Montessori and continues all the way to the DP gave me a very coherent growth experience.

Montessori taught me independence and curiosity at a very young age. PYP strengthened that curiosity through inquiry-based units, where my Grade 5 Exhibition project focusing on the global issue of food wastage allowed me to conduct a hands-on project on building a green house and posters advocating for reducing food waste in canteens. These experiences shaped my earliest abilities in independent thinking and self-management that are vital for writing the EE and IAs in the Diploma Programme. MYP taught me how to learn—how to research, collaborate, and reflect. And DP pushed me to manage complexity: balancing six subjects, IAs, the EE, TOK, and CAS at the same time.

Instead of shaping just my academic skills, the IB system shaped how I think, how I solve problems, how I recover from setbacks, and how I manage myself.

How did Amerasia support you on your journey to a perfect score?

“My perfect score wasn’t something I achieved alone—it was the result of a very strong support system.

Almost all my teachers at QAIS were IB examiners, and that expertise made a huge difference. They knew how to guide IA structure, how to narrow an EE topic, and how to give meaningful formative feedback.

At the same time, QAIS didn’t limit me. My EE, for example, explored how urban green spaces reduce psychological stress—connecting environmental science with psychology. The school gave me the freedom to choose a topic that mattered to me, and the support to succeed with it.

That combination of freedom and expert guidance was crucial.”

As someone who has experienced EC Montessori, PYP, MYP, and DP at Amerasia, why would you recommend this school to prospective students and families?

“I would recommend QAIS because it offers something very rare: a complete, coherent, 15-year learning journey that values the whole child, not just their grades.

QAIS cultivates independence in Montessori, curiosity in PYP, learning skills in MYP, and academic resilience in DP. But it also gives students space to explore sports, arts, and passions, which ultimately produces a well-balanced individual. This result in students who know how to think, how to express themselves, how to manage stress, and how to navigate complexity.

If a family is looking for an environment where their child can become a confident, balanced, and self-directed learner, QAIS is the place.”
