Innovation, collaboration, and critical thinking were on full display during this year’s Upper School STEM Day as students across the Middle Years Programme came together to tackle real-world challenges and showcase their learning.
The day began with presentations from MYP 2 Design students, who showcased their Make:Able Projects. Students identified genuine needs within their communities and designed prototypes to address them. Projects included a 3D-printed purse that vibrates when dropped, a handle to assist people with joint pain on stairs, a 3D-printed grabber to support elderly independence, and a headset microphone support system.
Students from MYP 2, 3, and 4 also participated in the “Heal the World” Science Project, working in multi-age teams to research real-world problems and develop innovative solutions. MYP 5 students drew on their DP 1 science subjects to lead and mentor their teams. The projects culminated in Phoenix Next, a Shark Tank-style pitching event where students presented their ideas and prototypes to a panel of judges.
All Upper School students also participated in debates on complex global issues, including language use in schools and the ethics of genetic engineering. These discussions encouraged students to think critically, evaluate evidence, and consider multiple perspectives.
The day concluded with students creating SDG Chalk Murals, raising awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and inspiring action towards a more sustainable future.
Upper School STEM Day celebrated the creativity, curiosity, and leadership of our students while highlighting the power of innovation to make a positive difference in the world.
