IDU (Interdisciplinary Unit) in the MYP

In the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), an Interdisciplinary Unit (IDU) brings together two or more subjects to explore a shared concept or real-world issue. Instead of learning subjects separately, students make meaningful connections and apply their knowledge in authentic contexts. IDUs strengthen critical thinking, collaboration, and the ability to transfer learning across disciplines. Amerasia approaches IDUs with intentional design, ensuring each unit is concept-driven, skill-rich, and grounded in authentic, real-world application.

MYP 1 – Probability in Basketball (Math & PHE)

Students combined Mathematics and Physical & Health Education to explore basketball through probability. By collecting and analyzing shooting data, they predicted which shots were most effective and tested their conclusions in real games.

MYP 2 – Stop Motion for Health (Languages & Design)

Students developed structured scripts in English and brought them to life through stop-motion animation in Design. Creating storyboards, voiceovers, and hundreds of images, they learned how clear writing and visual storytelling work together.

MYP 3 – Decoding the Past (Arts & Humanities)

Students explored how art reflects history. By analyzing artefacts and artistic movements, they examined how context shapes creative expression and curated exhibits as “future archaeologists.”

MYP 4 & 5 – Science in the Media (Science & Language & Literature)

Students investigated how scientific information is presented in the media. They analyzed bias, tone, and structure in articles while evaluating the accuracy of data and claims, developing critical media literacy and ethical awareness.
