Positive Discipline Workshop: A Six-Week Journey of Growth, Connection, and Family Harmony
Over the past six weeks, Amerasia parents came together every Wednesday and Friday morning to participate in our Positive Discipline Workshop, a unique bilingual learning experience led by Ms. Xiaopei Su, QAIS Lotus Cottage parent, Certified Positive Discipline Educator, ICF Life Coach, and Cambridge and KU Leuven graduate.
Positive Discipline, based on the work of Dr. Jane Nelsen, focuses on raising confident, capable children through approaches that are both kind and firm. Instead of relying on rewards or punishment, parents explored tools that build connection, teach life skills, and transform challenges into opportunities for deeper understanding. Together, they learned how to:
reduce power struggles
stay calm and grounded during stressful moments
help children listen and cooperate
turn mistakes into learning moments
encourage rather than reward
build a sense of belonging and capability
work as a team to create a more peaceful home
Parents shared real experiences, supported one another, and practiced new communication tools that immediately made a difference in their homes. Many described the workshop as “transformational,” “eye-opening,” and “a breath of fresh air” in their parenting journeys.
At Amerasia, Positive Discipline is foundational to our approach to discipline, classroom management, and working with children. Both Dr. Chris Vicari, Director, and Mr. Kevin Wheeler, Assistant Director and Upper School Principal, are trained Positive Discipline Workshop Leaders.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Xiaopei Su for her expertise, compassion, and generosity in guiding our community through this meaningful experience. And to all the parents who joined us—thank you for showing up with courage, curiosity, and a willingness to grow!
